In 1926, a package of documents was submitted to the secretariat of the USSR Academy of Sciences with a copy to A. Lunacharsky, which included two memos by G. Gidoni (“On the issue of creating an institute for the study of light and paint in their scientific and artistic applications to life”, “New art of light and paint obtained by electrical energy”), as well as a description of the Technical Department of the proposed Institute signed by S. Meisel. These materials determined the need not only for scientific and theoretical study, but also for scientific and artistic coverage of issues of light and paint, as well as the need to centralize and unite work in this area within a single institution. The attempt to create the Institute was unsuccessful. A similar institution – the Academy of Optophony (Institute of Optophonic Art) – was opened in Paris by the artist Wladimir Baranoff-Rossiné.
