G. Gidoni began working on the project of the “Light Monument” in the summer of 1926 together with the sculptor N. Mogilevsky. Initially, the monument was dedicated to V.I. Lenin and the 10th anniversary of the October Revolution. However, after a disagreement occurred between the artist and the sculptor, it more often appeared under the names “Light Monument to the October Revolution”, “Light Monument to the 10th Anniversary of the October Revolution”, “October Light Monument”. The model of the “Light Monument”, made with the support of Glavnauka, was exhibited during the anniversary session of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR in the Uritsky Palace in October 1927. The head of the photometric laboratory of the Optical Institute, S. Meisel, became a consultant on the lighting equipment of the model. It was planned to install the monument with a light orchestra operating inside it on the square. Uritsky (Palace Square) or sq. Victims of the Revolution (Champus of Mars). In 2020, a 3D visualisation of the “Light Monument” to the 10th Anniversary of the October Revolution was completed.
