The Paul Sacher Foundation (Basel), the Ivan Vyshnegradsky Society (Paris) and other collections preserve many light mosaic designs developed by the composer Ivan Vyshnegradsky for the project of the dome of the “Temple of Super-Art”. “Scriabin wanted to expand the space with colour; “I was thinking about forms,” he said. — Through the idea of a colour scale, the idea of shapes matured. I created a scale of 12 colours, kind of like in music. These 12 colours were thus quarter tones of colour. I was based on a rainbow, which has 6 colours – I hope no one will claim that there are seven of them!” (Ivan Vyshnegradsky: Pyramid of Life: Diary, articles, letters, memories, 2001, pp. 237). Vyshnegradsky called one of his works for six pianos in 1/12 tone “Rainbow” (op. 37, 1956).
